The Future Is Bright

Given the differences between different types of voles, it’s premature to draw any conclusions about human behavior based on these rodents. But we do know that oxytocin and vasopressin are major players when humans mate as well, and we have the same receptors as the prairie vole in our brains, even if they don’t work exactly the same way.

It’s certainly fun to speculate about what this research (and more like it) will bring for humans in the future. I could start a major business selling vasopressin receptor genes and its regulatory region to some of the couples I know. Perhaps the pharmaceutical companies will get wise, and “His and Hers” vasopressin and oxytocin receptor kits will be the de rigueur wedding present in 2050. Just to get the newly weds started out on the right foot, you understand.
